LEAVING A MARK ON THE WORLD
I am collaborating with bookwriter and lyricist Amy Andrews to compose the score for a new musical. We have been working on the musical since February 2023. Since then, we have had the opportunity to present songs from the show in cabarets at 54 Below and Green Room 42. We are very excited that TO THE LIGHTHOUSE was selected to be developed during AMDA SummerFest during July 2025.
Our musical adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s novel TO THE LIGHTHOUSE is a story about an artist's epic journey to realize her vision, the power of human connection in a changing world, and the decisions that shape our legacy.
At the Ramsay family summer home on the remote coast of Scotland in 1910, our protagonist Lily Briscoe works to capture her artistic vision on canvas. Meanwhile, Mr. Ramsay, a famous metaphysical philosopher, struggles to define his legacy, and Mrs. Ramsay works her magic to create harmony within her family and among their weekend guests.
Act 2 takes place ten years later in 1920, when global and personal tragedies and triumphs have combined to create a world that is largely unrecognizable to those living in it. In this new world, Mr. Ramsay must learn to connect with his children on his own, and Lily must ultimately make the brave choice to confront her grief so she can finally realize her artistic vision.
Here is a performance of “Lily’s Vision”, sung by Aléna Watters in the Women of the Wings, Volume VI cabaret at 54 Below in July 2023.
